Moving On Up!

Today Bryan and I are moving from a studio on the 2nd floor of our building and upgrading to a one-bedroom on the 4th floor, perfect for a family of 2. I feel like we are really newlyweds moving into "our" first place!
When Bryan moved to LA from NYC, my single-girl shabby chic (tiny) studio turned into a hodge-podge of bachelor pad "manly things" mixed with pink, girlie, feminine decor. We called it our "love nest." But it's time we upgrade for more space and find a balance between feminine and masculine to create something that says "us" when decorating! Another fun perk, I get my very own walk-in closet! Yeah!

Well, I better stop blogging and get back to helping Bryan move these boxes upstairs to apt 426!

P.S.

Bryan is taking me out to eat tonight for my birthday, not sure where he is taking me (it's a surprise) but somewhere in LA! Birthdays are so much fun! He also surprised me with a cake that he ordered from a West Hollywood bakery, he made sure to get sprinkles (I love sprinkles!) and pink icing! How thoughtful is my hubby? Being married is fun, especially during Birthday Week! Today was a good day!

Happy Birthday To Me!

Today I turned 28! Just thought I would post about myself, after all it is MY birthday today!
(and Kim Kardashian's but this blog is about ME) ...thank you to my family and friends who have given me beautiful, wonderful  memories for the past 28 years!

Pork Chop

My Uncle, Dwight Maddox is the most talented person and Luthier I know. He recently revealed his latest MDX Guitars masterpiece created for Celebrity Chef Fieri who can be found hosting a variety of shows on the Food Network, among others. Maddox designed the one and only "PORK CHOP" Guitar, custom made for Fieri, which can now be seen on the set of The Food Network's, Guy's Big Bite. The realistic Pork Chop guitar does not only look amazing on the celeb's popular cooking television set, but it can provide sounds of the highest quality just as all of the MDX Guitars produce. Maddox has a true gift in making guitars, he can turn any idea into an amazing piece of art, whether it be a piece of meat such as Fieri's Pork Chop, or a bottle of Southern Comfort, an MDX Guitar is known as the guitar of the stars and you will never see one like the other.

Being Bullied

Last night I judged a pageant for the Miss Teen Los Angeles County judging girls from the ages of 14-18.  In the middle of the competition one of the other judges (who is a runway model and owner of a model agency) leaned over to me and said, "does this make you feel really
out of shape?" I was a little annoyed he was trying to talk while i was focusing on the girls on stage whose dreams i was about to make or break with my ballot.

I didn't realize it was an insult until today when i was at work and told the girls in my office what he said. Then i realized i had been bullied and have been crying all day. What a jerk. Im 28 years old and will never have the body of an 18-20 year old girl. Anyway, i haven't felt "teased" like that since the 3rd grade and it brought back alot of memories.

So for anyone else out there that may have been teased for being Gay, Fat, Too Skinny, Ugly, A different color, here's my story..(don't pitty me, I'm just relating to those who also may have been bullied,  pitty those being bullied now, and teach others to take a stand)

Did u know that i was bullied as a kid for being "ugly" and "fat"? (and I wasn't by the way! I was tall, thank you very much) I was teased terribly from the 3rd grade until the end of 6th grade. They would call me names, tell me i couldnt sit at the lunch table because I was too ugly and fat, and on progress report day two boys would rub carbon copy paper all over my clothes on the school bus. I would look at myself in the mirror and just hate myself. When you are a very tall 3rd grader other kids think of you as "big and fat" and hearing that daily was hard. I would say back, "I am not!" and just walk away. Once I even had snow shoved in my face just for being, well....me. I could go on but this really isn't about me...

Flash forward 20 years and Im at work auditioning kids for a new TV show and just happened to meet a boy named Boston Moreland, a little seven year old with a kind heart and compassion for kids like...well,
me. Boston is a published author after also being teased and bullied by his peers for "looking different"
He decided that there may be other kids like him so he wrote a book about it. Wow. Now that is one cool kid. I told him that I was also teased as a kid and tears (again) ran down my face and he said nothing and just looked at me as if he was saying, "I'm sorry they teased you" and then he just stood up and gave me a huge hug. Ellen Degeneres, if you are reading this, bring this boy on your show!
Boston Moreland and his book, "Kid Potato and the Golden Swing"

Parents have got to start teaching their kids to stand up for other kids. Sad thing is, people aren't just bullied when they are young, there are even ADULT bullies. This has got to stop. I'm not only talking about myself, I am not having a pitty party. Yes I was a chubby kid who was teased and bullied as a child HOWEVER I was blessed to have an amazing mother and family who raised me in a christian home where I was taught that outside beauty was not what mattered. It was about loving others. Being beautiful on the inside. and I feel I grew up fairy confident and with a great self esteem thanks to that upbringing, but for many children who get made fun of...it has gone so far as they have taken their own lives for being gay, feeling "fat" or ugly." This has got to stop.

Ellen DeGeneres has also been talking about the dangers of bullying if you haven't heard already,whatever...they are bullied so much that they take their own life. Click this link below for some information on resources

P.S. To the Model Agent with the "kind words" sitting next to me who I don't even know your name, you have only made me stronger. And besides, am I trying to be a runway model? NO. Am I trying to be 18 again? No. Am I a 28 year old beautiful woman and I do not expect to look like the girls that were on stage (who were 18 for goodness sakes) that is why I was a judge you jerk. As Tyra Banks would say, "Kiss My Fat Ass!" I'm beautiful.

The 2011 Miss Los Angeles County USA Pageant has finally arrived. Many young women have been training and preparing for the day that they could be crowned the next Miss Los Angeles County USA, one step closer to the state pageant for the title of Miss California USA.

This Sunday, October 3rd, 2010, Toay Productions Presents the 2011 Miss Los Angeles County USA Pageant in Calabasas, California.

Who would have thought that California Queens would be in the hands of a Southern girl? I hope these LA ladies had mama's who raised them right, cause yours truly will be sitting in the judges panel as I have been asked to take part in the 2011 Miss Los Angeles County USA Pageant as a "Distinguished Judge" after review of my career in television, pageant and the entertainment industry.

I am honored and excited to interview these ladies and will do my best to choose someone of character and beauty, both inside and out. http://toayproductions.com/

Suisse Family Trip 2010

What an amazing week in SWITZERLAND with the family! Bryan, Pam, Kevin and I flew to Switzerland to spend a week with my Daddy at his chateau in Bursinel. My dad organized an amazing two-day hike in the Suisse alps that we have all been training for, and I will never forget that experience exploring Switzerland with my family! We wore special "crampons" to hike across a glacier, did some rock climbing...it was some serious hiking! It was awesome! We hiked about 7 hours the first day ending at the top of Zermatt, where we stayed in the mountain lodge overnight. The next morning we hiked back down, another 5-7 hours. It was the best feeling getting to the top, then again making it back down in one piece! I have to admit it was no stroll in the park! Thank goodness Bryan has been training me in California to be ready for hiking in Zermatt!

Pam and I picked roses from the garden for our hair

After our two-day hike, Bryan and I took a train to Paris to visit the city for a couple of days. It was just as romantic as everyone says it is! We walked all around the city, dining at cute little French cafes, browsing all the charming shops and making sure to see all the beautiful architecture and history throughout Paris. My favorite sight? The Eiffel Tower!

The Eiffel Tower was gorgeous at night!
and during the day!

It was an amazing trip that I will never forget!

Hipster Kid

Today was a great day at Hipster, located in Westlake Village, California.

The ladies of this adorable kids store for the stars welcomed me to set up a live casting event to find families with kids to be on the hit show
 "Supernanny" on ABC.

After casting moms with kids for the hit show Supernanny,
I made sure to pick up a few tutus and tiny tops for my niece Reese and even found a surprise to send Piper, my friend Paige's new baby girl!  If you want to make sure your tot is wearing the must have duds of the season, take a look at Hipster!

Thanks Hip Sisters Elizabeth McNamara-Thompson and Julianne McNamara-Zeile for hosting a Hip Event for Supernanny Casting!
